Fine without CATS!

Last night we got to visit our very cool cousins, David and Jill (and soon to come Landon). This was very fun. We hung out, they showed us their new house, and they made us some really fantastic food. Still very fun. Then Buddy showed up. Not so fun. Buddy is David's and Jill's cat. He's a fine cat, as far as cats go, but dang. I rubbed my eye right before we left for the night and I'll be darned if it didn't swell right up. Even Jill, who is a pharmacist, said, "Oh my gosh, I've never seen a person swell so quickly." Bad enough, right? But wait, there's more. The whole drive home (they live up near Dayton and we live down near Cincinnati) I was really having a hard time seeing out of my left peripheral. My eye actually hurt a little when I looked left without moving my head, almost like there was a hair stuck in it that I couldn't get out. But we make it home without running off the road, and I walked upstairs to the bathroom to see what had transpired since we left Dayton. My eyeball was now swollen. That's right, the white of my eye was swollen and bulging out from between my eyelids. It was pretty disgusting. It was just the white, so my iris and pupil were still at normal "see level" and my white was like a towering mountain range. Very gross! Anyway, I walked down to show Sandra my hideous disfiguration. She was cleaning bottles at the kitchen sink and when I took my glasses off she jumped away from me. Ouch. Then she continued to look at me with a sort of disgusted expression on her face. I asked her to stop that and it made her feel bad and then we both decided it would be best for everyone if I wore an eyepatch for the night. Luckily I had one in the bedside drawer (and an earring, too).

This morning the eye itself is back to normal, but the skin around is a little puffy. So if you read this blog and consider yourself a friend of the VonGeorge family, you'll get rid of your cat(s).

a rainy day- finally!

finally- RAIN! I love rainy days, especially when we haven't had one in 4 months!

yesterday was a crazy busy day with my job, sitting in 45 minutes of traffic after picking up Jason from Lori's, both of us had our high school life groups in the evening, and then cleaning up the kitchen mess from making spaghetti dinner for 8! it was exhausting. so a rainy day comes as a nice change of pace. Matt has parent-teacher conferences tonight until LATE, so Jason gets to spend time with Gram: on her birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY,
Gram and Grandy!

-- this morning I was checking email, not really paying much attention to Jason. I look over at him and he is just sitting there "reading" a book! it was so cute to see him totally content, and even turning the pages!

-- I usually post pictures of a happy Jason, but I thought I would also show you all a glimpse of the other reality we are sometimes dealing with:

he likes to crawl under things and into little spaces. here he crawled under the piano toy, but couldn't figure out how to get himself back out without scraping his head. most often, now when he is under things, he can do a pretty good job of ducking his head.

-- this morning was biscuit and bath day! he only gets to eat these things when we have a bath planned to take place immediately afterwards.

now its time to go wake up the boy (he must really like napping on rainy days, too!) and head off to buy Audrey a present at Babies R' Us!

standing

so many great things to keep writing about!

#1. my best friend Julie had her 2nd little boy- Andrew Shaun!
he was born on Sept. 21 weighing 8lbs. 15 oz!

#2. baby Audrey is now at home! continue to pray for her recovery from surgery. Daphane is having a baby shower on Sunday, since she never had one when she was pregnant due to the prognosis that Audrey wouldn't live.- so if anyone wants to help load this little girl and her family up with all the baby things they need (and don't have!) let me know!

#3. Matt had a great party for his birthday! thanks to everyone who came to celebrate with us.

#4. Jason is now a standing boy!

now... the GREAT news will be when I can write about Fall temperatures finally arriving... I am very tired of this 90 degree weather! but, until then, I guess we can try to enjoy the sunshine!

new Jason video

**new Jason video created by my awesome cousin Pete!!**
check out chapter 6!

it's a wonderful life...

... even with holes in suits, its a great life we are living!

yes, its true- Matt's one and only other suit is also ruined. but not by the little worm, by the drycleaner. (although, they say, the suit already had a big tear in it when we brought it in)
so Matt is now one of those guys who doesn't own a suit. good thing we don't have any more weddings in the near future! we said that we would go get him a suit when he is finished with his master's program and if he ever has a job interview for an administrator position. until then, he thinks he can make due with a sports coat or something. we'll see...

it's a wonderful life because:

- little Audrey was born on Sept. 13 to Tim and Daphane. she is breathing, eating on her own, all vital signs are great, she just had surgery on her little head Monday and seems to be recovering well. the doctors told Tim and Daphane that they would never take Audrey home, that she wouldn't be able to eat on her own, that she would have seizures, that she might not even be born alive. yet, here she is! God really can do amazing things!

- Matt is turning 30 years old tomorrow!

here's little Matty:

and here's Matt now as a really great Papa!:

- Jason is learning how to stand up on his own. he has no balance at all, but he is a little climber and trying to find things to pull up on. its kinda scary to watch, though, because I just know he is going to fall smack on his face. but I have to let him explore and try!

he's also been a wonderful napper for me, for the most part. he always goes down without crying and even if he doesn't fall asleep right away, he will lay quietly in his bed. he wakes up happy in the mornings and seems happy to be put in his crib to sleep at night. this is my little boy who I thought would NEVER learn to fall asleep on his own and would NEVER stop waking up in the middle of the night! but, here we are, going on 5 months of 12 hour/night sleep! I LOVE it! so everyone was right when they told me that "things will get better." I really didn't believe them- but it's true. and I am SO thankful!

--so here's the last photos for today-- Jason thinking about how he can get himself up to those toys on the shelf! I'll let you know when he figures it out!

hope to see you all on Saturday at the big birthday shin-dig!

happy toothday!

today is Jason's first Toothday!
yep, that's right-- tooth #1 has arrived. most babies get their teeth a lot earlier than Jason did, but he's definitely got them coming now! and, thankfully, we have not noticed too much extra whining or fussing or crying. so we are either (a) really used to a whiny baby, (b) he isn't feeling much pain, (c) I am just not very "in-tune" with what all is going on with my little guy or (d) he is a tough cookie and handling the whole thing really well! I like to think (b) and (d) are the true answers!

other fun life updates--
-- the painting of the dining room is not going so well. I don't like how the whole thing turned out, but I have no idea what to do or what I want it to look like now. grrrr... as of this moment, I am thinking about a lighter brown or lighter something on top. I might have to do some paint mixing. aggravating, though, to not know what I want!

-- he finally made it through the box!

-- we'll keep you all posted on the incoming teeth... as I am sure you are all so excited for those updates! just kidding- but I DO appreciate you all for reading up on our blog. its fun to be able to share these days and moments with everyone.. and to keep it all documented. thank you!!

I am the paparazzi

it's true. I have been officially called the paparazzi by my husband. my picture taking frenzy has kicked back into gear. I can't help it-- I am in love with my son! here's the latest cutey pictures from the past day or so:

other news:
- Matt's $700 suit has been ruined by a little bug in our closet! (why he has a $700 suit, I am not sure. I think he bought it after he got back from Iraq when he had lots of money!) the picture didn't really show up-- but there are lots of little holes all over the back. definitely ruined, nothing can fix the holes. it was a sad day on Saturday when this was discovered. good thing he has one other suit, since we have a wedding to attend this weekend!

- the dining room walls are now primed and ready for paint!
painting will be tomorrow's project.

- I had the idea that Jason might enjoy a cardboard box to crawl in, since he now seems to get himself under any table and into any little crawl space he can find. and he usually ends up with a scraped head when he tries to get himself back out again! so I thought if I could give him a safer place to get into, that would be better. well, here was our attempt with the box. I don't think he knew quite what to do with it... maybe I will try again in a few weeks.

any ideas??

does anyone know of any other internet providers -besides Cincinnati Bell- that offer wireless internet services? I really want to stop having Cincinnati Bell, but I can't figure out any other companies that offer wireless at home. If you know of any-- PLEASE let me know!

finally a free moment!

finally, I have a free moment to update the blog. well, actually, I am supposed to be stripping off wallpaper in the dining room- but this seems lots more fun!

there so many little tidbits of updates. so, here goes the bullet-points:

- Jason had his first outdoor sleeping experience-- he stayed in his very own tent in our friend's backyard in Hoopeston, IL. (we traveled to IL for the annual National SweetCorn Festival) we just set up his crib in one tent and we stayed in the other tent. he actually slept great- all through the night, as usual!

- Matt and his team came in 3rd place (out of 5) in our crazy Corn Olympics competition. the last event was to unfreeze a frozen solid t-shirt. Matt left that event with a bloody hand.. I am not quite sure how that happened, but he was really into winning!

- we had a great time at cousin Owen's 5th birthday party!

- the wallpaper is off 1/2 of the walls. some came off VERY easy, while other wall sections were a lot more challenging. my goal is to start painting this weekend!

- check out this hilarious eBay description! it was a real selling item-- and now the lady is kinda famous!
this is her blog- which is pretty comical.

I guess I have procrastinated long enough now... I am off to take down that wallpaper!
